Calico colored Persians were accepted for Championship in 1953. This sort of coloring occurs in Persians and other breeds of cats, featuring shorter coats. The calico coloring implies primary white color and the presence of red (brown or yellow) and black spots, which can occur in various proportions. Nearly all Calicoes are females. Some specialists are rather suspicious about the Calico genotype, regarding it as an "impure heritage."
