In the 19th century these cats were known in England as Chocolate Siamese, but they died out there. The first cat of that type named Wong Mau came to America in 1930 and was bred to a Siamese. She produced kittens of different colors.

This is an old breed that existed hundreds of years ago in Thailand and Burma. There are legends say that the breed was the traditional pets of Royalty and Nobility long before the Siamese. These were both temple cats, assigned a student monk to indulge their every whim. Most burmese cat breeders will support the breeder run rescues.
